No, But Really, What Do You Do?
Ever wonder what your coworker down the hall actually does all day? Any idea what your best friend's job is? Does your family know what you do? Most of the time, we have no idea what other people’s jobs really are. And whether we’ve known them so long that it’s too late to ask, or we just don’t want to look like we don’t know what they’re talking about, we often never find out. Well, now I'm asking, "no, but really, what do you do?"
No, But Really, What Do You Do?
Episode 7: Cori & Ian, Actors and Producers (Part 2)
No, but really, what do you do as an actor and producer (part 2)? Inclusive, accessible, representative. These are some of the core tenets that Cori & Ian and the rest of their creative partners at Via Brooklyn have built into their theatre company. In the second half of our conversation about their work we dive into the physical and emotional technical skills they use as actors, as well as what they’ve learned along the way about running a theatre as a business. They share the core questions they ask themselves and their creative partners when engaging in new productions, and advice for individuals moving into the arts. Plus, following the examples of activists, societal leaders and other content creators about being a better ally, I start today’s episode with a brief overview of two Black Theatre organizations I researched and am now following to diversify my social media feeds and expand my exposure to black theatre. Check these out and search for other diverse organizations in your community.
